Below you can find answers to the most common questions about MBI. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please contact us through the Student Support Center and we'd be glad to answer your question directly.
How do I access an online course I’ve registered for?
You can register for a course online from our website and get immediate access to the course online. Once you register, you can visit the Student Login section of the MBI website to login to your own student home area. From there, you’ll see a list of courses you’ve registered for – just click to access a course. On the first visit to the course home screen you’ll probably want to download and read the Course Introduction, a handy guide for each course that gives you a roadmap for how to take the course. The course home screen is where you can watch and listen to the course presentations, enter the student forum, view the course syllabus, and much more. To learn more, view a sample course today.
What are the advantages of online learning?
Online learning allows you to learn what you want, where you want, on your own schedule without the need for costly transportation or relocation. It’s a great option for people who live outside the major music industry areas, people who have a job and are studying while they’re not working, musicians who have a busy performing or traveling schedule, students who are looking to expand their music knowledge to better prepare for college, and much more.
While online learning does not involve a teacher looking over your shoulder and telling you what to do next, our students enjoy the responsibility and flexibility that studying on your own schedule provides. Our instructors and student advisors are available to answer any questions and help make your educational experience at MBI both enjoyable and productive.
How do I communicate with the course instructor?
You have direct access to your instructor via email, and through the course student forum.
Can international students take MBI courses?
Yes. We welcome English speaking students from around the world to our online courses.
Do I need a high school diploma or GED to take an MBI online course?
No. In addition to being open to college-age students and people working in the industry, our courses are open to high school-age students who have not yet completed high school but are interested in expanding their knowledge of how the music business works.
What is the course schedule?
To allow for maximum flexibility for our online students, we do not operate our courses on a calendar schedule – you are free to move through the course presentation at your own speed, starting and ending the course when your own schedule best permits.
How long to the courses take to complete?
Upon initial registration you have access to an online course for 12 months, although most courses are designed to be completed in 3 months assuming 3-5 hours per week of study.
Can I still access an online course after I have completed it?
Yes. If you wish to access your online course after the initial 12 month registration period, please contact our Student Support Center and we can extend the access period.
Can I get credit for a course?
We do not currently offer courses for-credit, although we plan on doing so later in 2011. Please sign up for our mailing list for the latest updates on for-credit courses.
Is MBI an accredited school?

What is your grading policy?
Currently grades are not given for courses as we do not offer courses for-credit, however will be instituting a grading policy as part of our academic policies once courses are available for-credit.
What about textbooks and course materials?
All of the course materials you’ll need for our courses are available online for download when you login to the course area. None of our courses require the additional expense of purchasing textbooks or other items
